Richard Pousette-Dart at Pace Gallery

Pace Gallery is currently presenting their first exhibition of works by Richard Pousette-Dart in London with works from 1940-1992.
I am hugely attracted to the diversity of his work.
Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Pousette-Dart experimented with varying types of media and approaches, alternating broadly between densely filled canvases and more simplified surfaces and forms.

He used a wide range of techniques using brush, palette knife and paint squeezed directly from the tube. It appears to me that Pousette-Dart was still finding his style by experimenting.
His later works let me believe he developed inner peace and contentment, as they have meditative and spiritual character. I am particularly fond of Radiance Number 8, where you can clearly see this development.

His artworks from the 1970s are so appealing to me that they transport me into my own world of dreams and meditation when looking at them.
Bill Viola / Michelangelo at the Royal Academy of Arts
(26th of January – 31st of March 2019)
Both Michelangelo and Bill Viola deal with the thresholds between birth, life and death. They use the symbolic power of sacred art and show us physical extremes and moments of transcendence.
This particular exhibition helps explore affinities between both artists. It is meant to represent a journey through the cycle of life. It consists of a selection of Michelangelo’s most poignant works as well as his only marble sculpture in the UK (the Virgin and Child with the Infant St John).
The exhibition features 12 major installations spanning Bill Viola’s entire career, among them is his extraordinary Tristan’s Ascension, a five-metre-high projection depicting the ascent of the soul after death.
